The point is, I would not expect Diablo 4 to arrive any time before late 2021, but probably even 2022 or beyond. Though it’s not like these games are in development that entire time, it’s a matter of what’s being prioritized. We know they were working on a StarCraft FPS that got cancelled but still, a decade between Diablo games seems a bit much in this day and age, even though yes, there were twelve years between Diablo 2 and 3. In IGN’s Diablo IV review, we said, “Diablo 4 takes the strategy of refining things the series already did so well rather than giving it a more substantial overhaul, and that careful and reverent path has shaped this massive sequel into one of the most polished ARPGs ever created, which makes slicing through the legions of the damned a hell of a good time. While Diablo IV doesn’t properly release until it gets out of early access tomorrow, players have already hit level 100 in Hardcore mode and immortalized their names on Blizzard’s Lilith statue. Blizzard has said that Diablo IV will be updated for "years" after launch, and has already revealed a robust roadmap going forward. Diablo II and Diablo III each received one major expansion apiece, though both continued to be well-supported by patches and other content updates. Blizzard's two expansions already puts Diablo IV ahead of its predecessors in terms of post-release content.
